I know just what you mean about stopping the cycle with your family tree. That's exactly what I'm doing. Everyone in my family is addicted to something, be it alcohol or drugs and I struggled pretty hard with drugs myself. Having Gracie changed my life. I will be celebrating 5 years of time in recovery on March 1st.

Re: Bottombumpers Cloth Wipes-6 pk

I just got some of these a few weeks ago and I LOVE them! I loved being your exchange partner. You nailed it on my gift! I love handmade and birdies :) I am so glad to have a Valentine's Decoration to pull out year after year for Lucia. I am trying to get more holiday decor since I am a mommy now! I love the wreath - thank you for being so thoughtful and making me something. The Sweet little clothespins are awesome as well... And I already told you about the cookies .... they were gone .... fast :)

I am really glad you liked your banner. I really wanted you to love it! It made me nervous sending something that I did not have in my hands first!

Re: A Mama’s Valentines Day Blog Exchange

I saw the picture of the banner on Twitter, but now I want to see a picture of what you sent too! UM COST!

I was discussing this very same thing on Facebook a couple days ago. I called out to my cloth diapering mamas asking about cloth wipes and a friend of mine said, "You use cloth? Eeew. Why?!" This is what I told him:

They're (disposables) just too expensive for me. I was spending $40-50 a month on diapers, if not more. Add that up for 3 years (basing this on Gracie's potty training, and NOT counting the difference in price for Pull-Ups, which are more expensive) that's $1620 on diapers alone. Plus $20 a month for wipes ($720 for 3 years) makes the grand expense $2340 ... See Morealtogether.

For cloth diapers, I might spend $200 for a full stash of diapers that will last me the entire time she's in diapers and training pants. I haven't determined the cost of detergent and extra water but I really don't think it's enough to make much of a dent in what I WAS spending on disposables.

I'm not knocking disposables. I used them with Gracie and I've used them with Kairi up until pretty recently. Cloth just is working better for us. :)

--

I didn't add in how much the extras cost, just the diapers (which I bought in bulk, so they were a little less expensive than normal) and the wipes, based on our monthly usage. That's still an awful lot of money to be, if you'll pardon the pun, pissing away.

I'm excited to be starting my cloth diapering journey. We've been full-time on them about a month now and I'm really enjoying not stressing over whether or not we'll have enough money for diapers when we're close to running out.

Re: 50 Weeks Without Wal-Mart

We eat almost all organic food and Target kept being out of things or stopped carrying them so we were getting tired of it anyway. I love the service we get at the local stores. In case anyone from around Norman reads this Native Roots and Dodson's are were we shop. Native Roots has more local foods and lots of meat (even deer) and Dodson's has wonderful prices, better than Whole Foods (outside of Whole Foods' brand).

I love that if they don't carry something I need they will try and order it for me, you don't get that at big box stores! :)

Re: 50 Weeks Without Wal-Mart

I have been to Ponca and the prices here are a bit higher but not too much, once you move to Tulsa you'll have lots of places you can go to! I just wanted to tell you how much I love seeing an Oklahoma mama (especially one in a smaller area) trying to get the word out about cloth diapering. I grew up in a small town not too far from Stillwater & when girls from high school hear that I CD my 2 kids I get all the typical negative responses. Keep up the good work!

Re: 50 Weeks Without Wal-Mart

I live in Ada, Oklahoma and I'm also working to stay out of Wal-Mart. We go to Norman once a month to shop at some local natural food stores. We even gave up Target this past month though we still go there for things we can't get in local stores but not food.

Re: 50 Weeks Without Wal-Mart

I would LOVE to cut Wal-Mart out of my shopping, but I live in Ponca City. I don't know if you've ever been to Ponca City, but we've got a couple other stores, all of which are too expensive. If we had an IGA, I would definitely change. Once we make our move to Tulsa in a year or two though, I think we'll look more into it then.

Re: Rockin’ Green Pail Freshner

I am amazed at how much Shake It Up has de-stenchified my diaper pail, and since it's in my bedroom, I'm very aware of the diaper pail. It has truly made cloth diapering easy for me. When I first started I had stinky issues because of the hard water in our city. But thank goodness I found this soap because it has solved my stinky problems! I also use this to wash my toddlers clothes and old stains have faded away!

Re: 51 Weeks Without WalMart

I cannot tell you how happy these posts are making me! I'm just so excited for you and all of your new ventures. AND, I'm so glad that you're shopping at IGA. People tend to forget that it stands for "Independent Grocers of America" and that they really need our business in order to "make it" against the huge corporations. Yay! Yay! Yay for shopping local and being so eco-friendly!!! p.s. The website looks AWESOME now!!

Re: Diapering Our Diva (written for Stillwater Living Magazine January Issue)

Thanks for the information! I hopefully will be doing some cloth diaper seminars in the next few weeks too, I will post them on here!
